    C)  2 and 4

    D)  1, 2 and 4

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

[d] When there is a lack of quorum of the permanent judges to hold or continue any session of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of India can appoint a judge of a High Court as an ad hoc judge of the Supreme Court for a temporary period, after the Constitution with Chief Justice of High Court concerned. The procedure for the impeachment of judge of a High Court is the same as that for a judge of the Supreme Court. At anytime, the Chiefs Justice of India can request a retired Judge of the Supreme Court or High Court (who is duly qualified for appointment as a judge of the Supreme Court) to act as a judge of the Supreme Court for a temporary period, only with the previous consent of the President. So, the Statement 1, 2 and 4 are correct. The retired permanent Judges of a High Court are prohibited from pleading or acting in any court or before any authority in India except the Supreme Court and the other High Courts. This ensure that they do not favour anyone in the hope of future favour. So, the Statement 3 is incorrect
