[b] The Eastern hills or mountains have their general alignment from the North-South direction. They are known by different local names such as Patkai Bum, Naga hills, Mizo hills or Lushai hills. These hills are low and are inhibited by numerous tribal groups practising Jhum cultivation. Most of these ranges are separated by small rivers, The State of Mizoram which is also known as the the 'Molassis basin' which is made up of soft unconsolidated deposits. Two rivers of Mizoram and Manipur are the tributaries of the Barak river, which in turn is the tributary of Meghna river.
