It shows that fossil forms become more and more complex as we proceed from earliest (lowermost) to the recent (uppermost) rocks and support the biological evolution. (ii) The fossil organisms which show characters of two different groups are called missing links and they provide evidences of the evolution, e.g. Archaeopteryx shows reptilian and avian characters, suggesting that birds have evolved from reptilian ancestors.
