Secondary productivity decreases with an increase in the trophic level. Explain.

    Answer:

Secondary productivity depends upon the rate of assimilation and formation of new organic matter by the consumers As we move up in the trophic level, number of species decreases which in turn decreases the formation of new organic matter. Also due to increase in size of organisms, the rate of assimilation increase, and available organic matter decreases. Thus, the overall rate of secondary productivity also decreases.
