    A massive-drive of tree plantation is organized by Delhi Government during the months of July-August. 'Van Mahotsava' was celebrated in Ramesh's School. Arally was organized in which 100 students of his school participated. Students were carrying playcards in which slogans were written like grown more tress, save trees, Trees are our friend, do not cut them. He also got five sapling to plant in his nearby area. He requested his gardener to help him in planting these. His friend were making fun of him.
    (i)  Do you agree that Ramesh has contributed little in saving our planet? Justify giving two reasons.
    (ii) What would happen if biodiversity is lost?
    (iii) What values are shown by Ramesh?
     

    Answer:

    (i)  Yes, Ramesh has been a responsible citizen and contributed towards saving our planet.
    (a) Plants are the source of oxygen in earth's atmosphere.
    (b) Pollination (without which plants cannot give us fruits and seeds) is another service the ecosystem provides through pollinators layer-bees, bumble bees, birds and bats.
    (ii) Loss of biodiversity would lead to:
    (a) Decline in plant production.
    (b) Lowered resistance to environmental perturbations such as drought.
    (c) Increased variability in certian ecosystem processes such as plant productivity, water use and pest and disease cycles.
    (iii) Responsible, care and concern towards nature.
