The bacterial cells are treated with lysozyme to break the cells open and release macromolecules. Purified form of DNA is obtained by removing RNA by treatment with ribonuclease, proteins by treatment with protease and other molecules by appropriate treatments. Purified DNA is precipitated out by addition of chilled ethanol.
