Transcription and translation can be coupled in prokaryotic cells but not in eukaryotic cells. Give reason.

    Answer:

In prokaryotes, the mRNA does not require any processing to become active. Transcription and translation occur in the same compartment, i.e. cytosol as there is no well-defined nucleus. Hence, coupling of transcription and translation is possible in prokaryotes. On the other hand, in eukaryotes mRNA needs to be processed to become active and then it is transported to the cytoplasm for translation. Hence, coupling of transcription and translation is not possible.
