Why some seeds of Citrus are reffered to as polyembryonic? Explain.

Polyembryony is the phenomenon of occurrence of more than one embryo in a seed, e.g. Citrus. This phenomenon occurs due to following two conditions

· Synergids of embryo sac divide to form embryos.

· Nucellar cells divide and protude into embryo sac and develop into embryo.
