     On March 5, 1770 a group of protesting colonist encountered British Soldiers patrolling the streets of Boston. In a scuffle that neither side can agree on. 5 colonist were shot, one (Crispus Attacks) ended up dead. Battle of Bunker Hill took place on June 17. 1775 during the Siege of Boston; it took place mostly on Breeds Hill. In the Battle of Trenton (December 26), Washington defeated a formidable garrison of Hessian mercenaries before withdrawing. Treaty of Paris, signed on September 3, 1783, between the American colonies and Great Britain, ended the American Revolution and formally recognized the United States as an independent nation.
