If an explosion takes place at the bottom of a lake, will the shock waves in water be longitudinal or transverse?

    Answer:

An explosion in a lake produces shock waves thereby creating enormous increase in pressure in the medium (water). A shock wave is thus a longitudinal wave travelling at a speed which is greater than that of a longitudinal wave of ordinary intensity.
