Among the following the pair in which the two species are not isostructural is     [CBSE PMT 2004]

    A)                 \[BH_{4}^{-}\] and \[NH_{4}^{+}\]

    B)                 \[PF_{6}^{-}\]and \[S{{F}_{6}}\]

    C)                 \[Si{{F}_{4}}\] and \[S{{F}_{4}}\]

    D)                 \[IO_{3}^{-}\] and \[Xe{{O}_{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

\[Si{{F}_{4}}\] has symmetrical tetrahedral shape which is due to \[s{{p}^{3}}\] hybridization of the central sulphur atom in its excited state configuration. \[S{{F}_{4}}\] has distorted tetrahedral or Sea- Saw geometry which arise due to \[s{{p}^{3}}d\]hybridization of central sulphur atom and due to the presence of lone pair of electron in one of the equatorial hybrid orbital.
