In order to prepare one litre normal solution of KMnO4, how many gm of KMnO4 are required, if the solution is to be used in acid medium for oxidation [MP PET 2002]

    A) 158 gm

    B) 31.60 gm

    C) 62.0 gm

    D) 790 gm

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

In acidic medium 2 molecules of \[KMn{{O}_{4}}\]gives 5 atoms of oxygen \[2KMn{{O}_{4}}+3{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\to {{K}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}+2MnS{{O}_{4}}+3{{H}_{2}}O+5(O)\] \[2\times 158=\frac{316\times 8}{80}=31.6\]. So, equivalent wt. of \[KMn{{O}_{4}}\] in acidic medium is = 31.6 gm
