Can a Carnot engine be realised in practice?

    Answer:

No. A Carnot engine should consist of (i) a source of infinite thermal capacity, (ii) a sink of infinite thermal capacity, (iii) an ideal gas as its work substance. Moreover, the working substance should be contained in cylinder provided with frictionless, non-conducting movable piston. It is not possible to achieve all these conditions. Hence a Carnot engine cannot be realised in practice.
