A block of wood is floating on water at \[\mathbf{0}{}^\circ \mathbf{C}\] with a certain volume V above the level of water. The temperature of water is gradually increased from \[\mathbf{0}{}^\circ \mathbf{C}\] to\[\mathbf{8}{}^\circ \mathbf{C}\]. How does the volume V change with the change of temperature?

    Answer:

The density of water increases from \[{{0}^{\circ }}C\] to \[\text{4}{}^\circ \text{C}\] and decreases from \[\text{4}{}^\circ \text{C}\] to\[\text{8}{}^\circ \text{C}\]. So, \[V\] will increase till the temperature of water reaches \[\text{4}{}^\circ \text{C}\] and then it will go on decreasing.
