    Describe the contribution of Mazzini in the unification of Italy.

    Giuseppe Mazzini played a significant role in the unification of Italy.
    (i) During 1830's he worked for a 'free independent republican Italy'. He formed a secret society called 'Young Italy' to inspire the youth with revolutionary ideas. He himself in his younger days was a member of a secret society 'Carbonari' and imbibed liberal ideas.
    (ii) After the failure of 1830 and 1848 revolution the responsibility of uniting Italy into a single state was shouldered by Victor Emmanuel II of kingdom of Piedmont and Sardinia and his diplomatic minister Cavour.
    But Mazzini, the idealist had already prepared the ground for unification of Italy by inspiring the youth-Cavour had to just take up his work from whore he left.
