Explain, what effect did US involvement in the war in Vietnam have on life within the US itself and Vietnam?

    Answer:

Following were the factors which affected life in the US and Vietnam:
In the course of the Vietnamese struggle for freedom thousands of US troops arrived in Vietnam leaving their homes behind, to fight for a cause in which many of them did not have any interest.
As the young soldiers began to die, anger spread in the country. Though youth of elite US homes and universities were spared, the burden of fighting in a strange land fell on the minorities and the youth of working class families.
Many books were written and films were made to expose the disastrous effects of the war, e.g., John Coppala's Apocalypse reflected the moral confusion that the war had caused.
The war compelled the US troops to sacrifice their home and family, live under horrific conditions and fight in a far off country.
The US government underestimated the power of nationalism which prompted a small country to fight the most technologically advanced country of the world.
Finally due to strong reaction at home and due to the unprecedented loss of men and money in the war, the US government decided to withdraw from Vietnam.
