    Two balls of mass m each are placed at the two vertices of an equilateral triangle. Another ball of mass 2m is placed at the third vertex of the triangle. Locate the centre of mass of the system.

    Answer:

                    As shown in Fig. the centre of mass of the two balls placed at A and B lies at the mid point D of                 the side AB. Now we have the system of two masses, each of mass 2m at the points C and D on the perpendicular bisector CD of side AB. Hence the centre of mass of the system lies at the midpoint O of the perpendicular bisector CD.
