The points which trisect the line segment joining the points (0, 0) and (9, 12) are    [RPET 1986]

    A) (3, 4), (6, 8)

    B) (4, 3), (6, 8)

    C) (4, 3), (8, 6)

    D) (3, 4), (8, 6)

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Let the point be (x, y) (i) Point B (x, y) divides AD in 1 : 2 \[\therefore \,\,\,\,x=\frac{0+9}{3}=3\] and \[y=\frac{0+12}{3}=4\] (ii) Now point C (x, y) divides AD in 2 : 1, Then  \[x=\frac{0+18}{3}=6\] and \[y=\frac{0+24}{3}=8\].
