To construct a wall 24 m long, \[0.4\text{ }m\]thick and 6 m high, bricks of diamensions \[25\text{ }cm\text{ }\times 16\text{ }cm\text{ }\times \text{ }10\text{ }cm\]each are used. If the mortar occupies 1/10th of the volume of the wall, find the number of bricks used.

    A)  12960

    B)  14420

    C)  24566

    D)  14296

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Volume of the wall             \[=24\times 0.4\times 6=57.6{{m}^{3}}\] Volume of mortar \[=\frac{57.6}{10}=57.6\,{{m}^{3}}\] Volume of used bricks             \[=(57.6-5.76){{m}^{3}}=51.84{{m}^{3}}\] Volume of each brick             \[(25\times 16\times 10)c{{m}^{3}}=4000c{{m}^{3}}\] \[=\frac{4000}{100\times 100\times 100}\,\,{{m}^{3}}=\frac{4}{1000}{{m}^{3}}\] \[\therefore \] Number of bricks used \[=\frac{51.84}{\frac{4}{1000}}=12960\]
