The mean and median of the data a, b and c are 130 and 120, where \[a<b<c\]. If \[c-a=60\], then find \[(b-c)\].

    A)  5

    B)  35

    C)  60

    D)  - 45

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    (d): (i) Since, a, b, c are in ascending order, b is the median. (ii) \[AM=\frac{a+b+c}{3}=130\Rightarrow a+c+120=390\] \[\Rightarrow c+a=270\] Also, \[c-a=60\]              \[\Rightarrow c=165\] \[\Rightarrow b-c=120-165=-\,45\]
