The capital of New Zealand was shifted from Auckland to Willington in 1865. Kyoto was the capital of Japan up to 1185. It was shifted Kamakura (in present Tokyo) in 1185. Brisbane was founded as a station for British convicts in 1824. It was named in honour of the British astronomer and administrator Thomas Brisban, the then Governor of the neighbouring colony of New South Wales. Brisbane was thrown open to free settlers in 1842 and it became the capital of the state of Queensland. It was never the capital of Australia.
