    Functions of Food Corporation in India: (a) Food Corporation of India (FCI) purchases wheat and rice from the farmers in states where there is surplus production. (b) The farmers are paid a pre-announced price for their crops (Minimum Support Price). This provides incentive to the farmers for raising the production of crops. (c) FCI stores the purchased grains in granaries to create buffer stock. (d) FCI distributes foodgrains in the deficit areas and among the poorer strata of society at a price lower than the market price. FCI also helps provide foodgrains during adverse weather conditions (droughts and floods) or during calamity.
