What are the basic principles of democracy?

    Answer:

Basic Principles of Democracy. The term/concept of democracy emerged as the reaction against the notions of undivided political power. The basic principles of democracy are as follows:
    (i) People as the source of political power: In a democracy people are the source of all political power. They rule themselves through the institutions of self-governance.
(ii) Equal respect and share in policy making: In a good democratic government, due respect is given to diverse groups and views that exist in a society. Every one has a say in the shaping of public policies.
Therefore, it follows that in a democracy political power should be distributed among as many citizens as possible.
