                As shown in Fig. the fermi level of an intrinsic semiconductor lies midway between its valence and conduction bands. It is just an abstraction. Just as the centre of gravity of a hollow body lies at a point where there is no matter, so also the Fermi level lies in the region of forbidden energy.
