    If \[\alpha ,\beta \] are the roots of the equation \[6{{x}^{2}}-5x+1=0\]. Then the value of \[{{\tan }^{-1}}\alpha +{{\tan }^{-1}}\beta \]is  [MP PET 2004]

    A) \[\pi /4\]

    B) 1

    C) 0

    D) \[\pi /2\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    \[\alpha +\beta =\frac{5}{6},\,\,\alpha \beta =\frac{1}{6}\] \[{{\tan }^{-1}}\alpha +{{\tan }^{-1}}\beta ={{\tan }^{-1}}\left( \frac{\alpha +\beta }{1-\alpha \beta } \right)\]                                    =\[{{\tan }^{-1}}\left( \frac{5/6}{1-(1/6)} \right)={{\tan }^{-1}}(1)=\frac{\pi }{4}\].
