A bag contains 5 pens and 6 pencils. If a boy selects 2 articles from the bag, then what is the probability that the selected articles will be a pen and a pencil?

    A)  \[\frac{2}{11}\]

    B)  \[\frac{3}{11}\]

    C)  \[\frac{6}{11}\]

    D)  \[\frac{5}{11}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    (c): It will be a pen and a pencil in two ways: 1. P (first pen, then pencil) \[=\frac{5}{11}\times \frac{6}{10}\] 2. P (first pencil, then pen) \[=\frac{6}{11}\times \frac{5}{10}\] \[\therefore \] Required \[P=\frac{5\times 6}{110}+\frac{6\times 5}{110}=\frac{6}{11}\]
