An object is in uniform motion along a straight line. What will be position-time graph for the motion of the object if (a) \[{{x}_{0}}=+\mathbf{ve},\upsilon =+ve\] (b) \[{{x}_{0}}=+\mathbf{ve},\upsilon =-ve\] (c) \[{{x}_{0}}=+\mathbf{ve},\upsilon =-\mathbf{ve}\] (d) Both \[{{x}_{0}}\] and \[\upsilon \]are negative? The letters \[{{x}_{0}}\] and \[\upsilon \] represent position of the object at \[t=0\]and uniform velocity of the object respectively.

    Answer:

The position of the object moving with a uniform velocity \[\upsilon \] and time t is given by \[x={{x}_{0}}+\upsilon t\]                                                                                                                     (i) If \[{{x}_{0}}=+\text{ve}\] and \[\upsilon \text{ }=+\text{ ve,}\], position-time graph will be as shown in Fig. (a). (b) If \[{{x}_{0}}=\text{ }+\text{ ve}\] and \[\upsilon =-ve\] the position-time graph will be as shown in Fig. (b). (c) If \[{{x}_{}}_{0}=-ve\] and \[~\upsilon =\text{ }+\text{ ve},\] the position-time graph will be as shown in Fig. (c). (d) If both \[{{x}_{0}}\]and \[\upsilon \] are negative, the position-time graph will be as shown in Fig. (d).
