    Explain any four types of non-conventional sources of energy developed in India.                   [Delhi 2005C]

    Answer:

    The four types of non-conventional sources of energy developed in India are:
    (i) Solar energy: India being a tropical country has enough scope for production and utilisation of solar energy. The largest solar plant in India is located at Madhapur. Near Bhuj used to sterilise milk cans. Solar energy can be used for cooking pumping water heating space heating and lighting of homes and streets.
    (ii) Wind energy: The largest wind farm cluster of 150 mw is located in Tamil Nadu Gujarat is very favorable for wind farm.
    (iii) Biogas: Shrubs farm wastes animal and human wastes are used to produce bio gas for domestic consumption. Biogas plants are set up at municipal cooperative and individual levels
    (iv) Other non-conventional sources: This include small hydel plants with a generation capacity of less than 5 MW. Geothermal energy tidal energy and wave energy.
