An air bubble in a glass slab \[\left( \text{m }=\text{ 1}.\text{5} \right)\] is 6 cm deep as viewed from one face and 4 cm deep as wed from the other face. The thickness of the glass slab is

    A)  10 cm

    B)         15 cm

    C)  6.67cm

    D)         11.67cm

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Let \[{{x}_{1}}\] be the real distance of the bubble \[\therefore \]  \[{{\mu }_{g}}=\frac{{{x}_{1}}}{6}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[1.5=\frac{{{x}_{1}}}{6}\]                  \[{{x}_{1}}=1.56=9\,\,cm\] When viewed from other side,\[{{\mu }_{g}}=\frac{{{x}_{2}}}{4}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[1.5=\frac{{{x}_{2}}}{4}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{x}_{2}}=6\,\,cm=1.5\times 4\] \[\therefore \]Total thickness of slab\[={{x}_{1}}+{{x}_{2}}\]                 \[\mathbf{=9+6=15}\,\,\mathbf{cm}\]
