What will be the volume of the mixture after the reaction?                         \[\underset{\text{4 litre}}{\mathop{N{{H}_{3}}}}\,+\underset{\text{1}\text{.5 litre}}{\mathop{HCl}}\,\to \underset{\text{(solid)}}{\mathop{N{{H}_{4}}Cl}}\,\]                    [BVP 2004]

    A)                 0.5 litre

    B)                 1 litre

    C)                 2.5 litre

    D)                 0.1 litre

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

               \[N{{H}_{3}}+HCl\to N{{H}_{4}}Cl\]                    \[4litre\,\,\,1.5litre\]                                 \[HCl\] is a limiting compound. That's why \[1.5litre\] of \[HCl\] reacts with \[1.5litre\] of \[N{{H}_{3}}\] and forms\[N{{H}_{4}}Cl\]. Thus (4 - 1.5) \[2.5litre\] \[N{{H}_{3}}\] remains after the reaction.
