What is the sum of the shaded parts of the given figures?

    A)  \[1\frac{2}{3}\]

    B)  \[1\frac{1}{4}\]

    C)  \[1\frac{3}{4}\]

    D)  \[2\frac{1}{4}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

For figure I, Total number of equal parts = 4 Number of shaded parts = 3 \[\therefore \] Shaded fraction \[=\frac{3}{4}\] For figure II, Total number of equal parts = 16 Number of shaded parts = 8 \[\therefore \] Shaded fraction \[=\frac{8}{16}=\frac{1}{2}\] So, required sum\[=\frac{3}{4}+\frac{1}{2}=\frac{3+2}{4}=\frac{5}{4}=1\frac{1}{4}\]
