Which one of the following statement does not hold good when two balls of masses \[{{m}_{1}}\] and \[{{m}_{2}}\] undergo elastic collision?

    A)  When \[{{m}_{1}}<{{m}_{2}}\] and \[{{m}_{2}}\] at rest, there will be maximum transfer of momentum.

    B)  When \[{{m}_{1}}={{m}_{2}}\] and \[{{m}_{2}}\] at rest, there will be maximum transfer of K.E.

    C)  When collision is oblique and \[{{m}_{2}}\] at rest with \[{{m}_{1}}={{m}_{2}}\], after collision the ball moves in opposite direction.

    D)  None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

When\[{{m}_{1}}<<{{m}_{2}}\], the lighter body is turned back with same speed. This is the case of maximum transfer of momentum. When \[{{m}_{1}}={{m}_{2}}\] and \[{{m}_{2}}\] is at rest, the velocities gets exchanged and \[{{m}_{1}}\] comes at rest. It kinetic energy becomes zero. This is the case of maximum transfer of kinetic energy. When, the collision is oblique, both the balls will move at an angle.
