If isobutane and n-butane are present in a gas, then how much oxygen should be required for complete combustion of 5 kg of this gas

    A)                 17.9 kg

    B)                 9 kg

    C)                 27 kg

    D)                 1.8 kg

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

               Isobutane and n-butane \[\left[ {{C}_{4}}{{H}_{10}} \right]\] have same molecular formula; \[{{C}_{4}}{{H}_{10}}+\frac{13}{2}{{O}_{2}}\to 4C{{O}_{2}}+5{{H}_{2}}O\]                                 For 58gm of \[{{C}_{4}}{{H}_{10}}\] 208 gm \[{{O}_{2}}\] is required then for 5 kg of \[{{C}_{4}}{{H}_{10}}\] \[{{O}_{2}}=\frac{5\times 208}{58}=17.9\,kg\]
