Insects are attracted by the grey colour of ild and pitcher as well as the nectar available on the rim and neck of pitcher. An insect which enters the pitcher in search of nectar, slips downwardly into the digestive fluid. The breakdown products of insects are absorbed by the glandular surface of the pitcher.
