If \[4{{x}^{2}}+{{y}^{2}}=40\] and \[xy=6,\]find the value of \[2x+y=?\]

    A) \[\pm 8\]

    B)  \[\pm 6\]

    C) \[\pm 7\]

    D) \[\pm 5\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    \[4x+{{y}^{2}}=40\] Now, \[{{\left( 2x \right)}^{2}}+{{\left( y \right)}^{2}}=40\] Adding, 4xy both sides, \[{{\left( 2x \right)}^{2}}+{{\left( y \right)}^{2}}+2.2x.y=40+4xy\] \[{{\left( 2x+y \right)}^{2}}=40+4\times 6\] Therefore, \[2x+y=\pm \sqrt{64}=\pm 8\]
