The value of x and y respectively in the simultaneous equations\[2x-\frac{3}{y}=12\,\,and\,\,5x+\frac{7}{y}=1,y\ne 0\] is

    A)  \[2,-\frac{1}{3}\]

    B)         \[3,-\frac{1}{2}\]

    C)  \[-3,\frac{1}{2}\]

    D)         \[-2,\frac{1}{3}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Put \[z=\frac{1}{y}\] in the given simultaneous equations they may be writ/ten as                 \[2x-3z=12\]                                       ? (i)                 \[5x+7z=1\]                                        ? (ii) Solving equations (i) and (ii), we get                 \[x=3,\,\,z=-2\] or            \[x=3,\,\,y=\frac{1}{z}=-\frac{1}{2}\]
