      Why is diamond extremely hard and insulator?

    Answer:

      In diamond each carbon atom is bonded to four carbon L atoms by strong directional covalent bonds. Atoms are  very strongly held at their positions. Therefore diamond  is hard. Carbon atom has no free electrons. Hence it is insulator.
