Why is iodine more soluble in KI solution than in water?

    Answer:

Iodine is covalent in nature and therefore, it does not dissolve in water which is polar. In \[KI\] solution, iodine reacts to form \[K{{I}_{3}}\] which is ionic in nature. Therefore, it becomes soluble in water. \[KI+{{I}_{2}}\xrightarrow{\,}\,K{{I}_{3}}\,(\overset{+}{\mathop{K}}\,{{I}^{-}}_{3})\] .
