Benzoic acid is stronger acid than acetic acid. Why?

    Answer:

The higher acidity of carboxylic acid as compared to phenol is due to stabilisation of carboxyl ate ion by two resonance structure in which -ve charge is at more electro negative oxygen. But in resonance of peroxide ion the -ve charge is at less electronegative carbon atom. So, resonance in peroxide ion is less stable as compared to carboxyl ate ion. (i) (ii)
