Trisilicylamine is a weaker base than trimethylamine. Explain.

    Answer:

In trisilicylamine \[{{(Si{{H}_{3}})}_{3}}\overset{..}{\mathop{N}}\,,\] the lone electron pair on the nitrogen atom is involved in\[p\pi -d\pi \] bonding with the vacant 3d orbitals on silicon atom. As a result, it is not as easily available to the attacking Lewis acid as in case of trimethylamine \[{{(C{{H}_{3}})}_{3}}\overset{..}{\mathop{N}}\,,\] where the electron pair is rather free.
