Why can 2p sub-shell accommodate more electrons than 2s sub-shell?

    Answer:

2s sub-shell has only one orbital (m = 0) while 2p sub-shell has three orbitals (m = - 1, 0, + 1). Since an orbital can have a maximum of two electrons, this means that 2p sub-shell with three orbitals can accommodate a maximum of six electrons while 2s sub-shell with one orbital can have only two electrons in it.
