\[NaCl\] gives a white precipitate with\[AgN{{O}_{3}}\]  solution but \[CC{{l}_{4}}\] does not. Why?

    Answer:

Both \[NaCl\] and \[AgN{{O}_{3}}\] are ionic solids and they readily dissociate to form ions in solution. \[A{{g}^{+}}\]ions combine with \[C{{l}^{-}}\] ions to give white precipitate of\[AgCl\]. But \[CC{{l}_{4}}\] is covalent compound and does not give\[C{{l}^{-}}\]  ions in solution. Therefore, no reaction is possible between\[CC{{l}_{4}}\] and\[AgN{{O}_{3}}\].
