(ii) Introducing Advance Loan System:
British wanted to prevent weavers from dealing with other buyers. To prevent
this they introduced the system of advances. For that the weavers were given
loans to purchase the raw material for their production. Those who took loans, had
to hand over the cloth only to gomasthas. This insisted them to have direct
control on their cotton and silk goods production.
