      Explain the rights of the consumer provided under the Consumer Protection Act (COPRA), 1986. Or Mention some of the rights of consumers and write a few sentences on each.

    Answer:

                      The rights of consumers under COPRA are described below (i) Right to Safety The consumer has the right to be protected against goods that are hazardous to life and property. (ii) Right to Choose The consumer can choose the product to be bought and also whether or not to buy a product. He cannot be forced to purchase a product or service not of his choice. (iii) Right to, be Informed The consumer has the right to know important facts about the product or service being purchased. (Iv) Right to Seek Redressal The consumer has the right to seek redressal if the supplier has exploited him. He has the right to be compensated by the trader/producer if any damage or 'loss occurs due to the product or service purchased. (v) Right to Representation In case there is a dispute between the consumer and the seller or service provider which is not settled, the consumer has the right to approach the local Consumer Court for redressal. In case his representation in the District Level Court is dismissed, he can approach the state level and then at the national level. (vi) Right to Consumer Education Consumers must become conscious of their rights while purchasing goods or services. For this, all consumers should read the advertisements brought out by the government under the headline, 'Jago Grahak Jago', as they are very informative.
