How far COPRA can be called a, land mark in the growth of consumers' protection?"

    Answer:

The Consumers Protection Act (COPRA), 1986 is really a landmark in the growth of consumer's protection. That is why, India has been celebrating 24th December as the National Consumers' Day. It is on this day that Indian Parliament enacted the Consumer Protection Act in 1986. The Act has enabled us as consumers to have the right to represent ourselves in the consumer courts. The enactment of COPRA has led to the setting up of separate departments of consumer affairs in Central and State Governments. India is one of the countries that have exclusive courts for consumer reprisal. There are today more than 700 consumer groups in the country of which about 20-25 are well organised and recognised for their work.
