Defence Research and Technology

·         Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was established in 1958 to provide a solid base to the national security system.                                                    

·         DRDO formulates and executes programmes of scientific research. design and develops new weapons required by the armed forces.    

·         Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) was launched in 1983 with the aim of achieving self-sufficiency in missile development and production. Currently, it comprises of five core missile programmes - the strategic Agni ballistic missile, the tactical Prithvi ballistic missile, the Akash and Trishul surface-to-air missiles and the Nag anti-tank guided missile.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)

It was established immediately aftermath Chinese attack in the year 1962. They help protect Northern borders by monitoring and preventing smuggling and illegal immigration.

National Security Guard (NSG)

It was established in 1984 to counter the surge of militancy in the country.

It is a highly trained force that deals with militants effectively.

Central Industrial Security Force  (CISF)

It was set up in 1969 after the recommendation of Justice B. Mukherji. Its objective is to monitor the industrial complexes of the Central Government.

Assam Rifles

It is oldest paramilitary force in the country. Assam rifles was established in the year 1835 with an objective to keep a constant vigil on the international boarders in North East while resorting to counter-insurgency operation in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland

Board Security Force (BSF)

It was established in 1965. It keeps a vigil over the international borders against the intrusion in the country

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)

It was set up in the year 1939 with an objective to assist the State/Union Territory Police in maintenance of law and order. ?Mahila Battalion? commissioned on 30th March 1986 is the 88th Battalion of CPRF which is the world?s first paramilitary force comprised entirely of women cadre.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

It was established in 1949. Its main objective is to stimulate interest among the youth in the defence of the country and to build up a reserve manpower to expand armed forces.

It was established in 1949. It is a voluntary, part time force (between 18 and 35 years), not comprising professional soldiers, but civilian, who wish to assist in defence of the country.

Coast Guard

It was set up in 1978. Its main objective is to protect the maritime and other national interests in the maritime zones of India.

Intelligence Bureau (IB)

Intelligence Bureau (IB) is India?s internal intelligence agency and world?s oldest intelligence agency. It was reformed as the Central Intelligence Bureau in 1947 under the Ministry of home Affairs.

Central Bureau of Intelligence (CBI)

It was established in 1941 as the special police establishment. Its objective is to investigate cases of misconduct by public servants, cases of cheating, embezzlement and fraud. CBI is also entrusted with the investigation of international crime cases in collaboration with INTERPOL. It was renamed as the Central Bureau of Investigation on 1 April 1963

National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)

It was established in 1986. Its objective to collect crime statistics at the national level, information of interstate and international criminal to help investigation agencies.

Rapid Action Force (RAF)

It was established in 1992. Under the operational command of CRPF, 10 battalions of the CRPF have been reoriented for tackling communal riots in the country.
