(1) When a pull is horizontal
R = mg
and F = ma
\[\therefore \] a = F/m
(2) When a pull is acting at an angle \[(\theta )\] to the horizontal (upward)
R + F sin \[\theta \] = mg
\[\Rightarrow \] R = mg - F sin \[\theta \]
and F cos \[\theta \] = ma
\[\therefore \] \[a=\frac{F\cos \theta }{m}\]
(3) When a push is acting at an angle \[(\theta )\] to the horizontal (downward)
R = mg + F sin \[\theta \]
and F cos \[\theta \] = ma
\[a=\frac{F\cos \theta }{m}\]
