(1) Preparation
(i) From allyl halide
\[C{{H}_{2}}=CH-C{{H}_{2}}Br+{{H}_{2}}O\to \underset{\text{Allyl alcohol}}{\mathop{C{{H}_{2}}=CH-C{{H}_{2}}OH+HBr}}\,\]
(ii) By heating glycerol with oxalic acid :

(2) Physical properties
(a) It is colourless, pungent smelling liquid.
(b) It is soluble in water, alcohol and ether in all proportion.
