Sports events have played pivotal role in communities around the world. Sports events, specially football world cup, commonwealth game, etc., attract millions of people. Let us know more about some sporting events.

 

SOME FAMOUS SPORTS EVENTS

 

1.            Icc World Cup - The ICC Cricket World Cup is the international championship of one -bay International (001) cricket. The event is organized by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), every four years, with preliminary qualification rounds leading up to a finals tournament. The tournament is one of the world's most viewed sporting events and is considered the "Flagship Event of the International Cricket Calendar" by the ICC.

2.            Pro Kabbadi League - Pro Kabaddi League was conceptualized and founded by Mashal Sports promoted by Anand Mahindra, Charu Sharma and Rajiv Luthra. The leagues inception was influenced by the popularity of the Kabaddi tournament at the 2006 Asian Games. The format of the competition was influenced by Indian Premier League.

3.            Martial Art Camp- A martial art is a system of training for combat and self-defense that's widely practiced as a sport. There are camps and classes for each kind of martial art. Including karate, taekwondo, kung fu, and judo. These camps can take place in summers or winters.

4.            Indian Premier League- It is a professional T20 cricket league in India contested during April and May of every year by teams representing Indian cities and some states. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2008, and is regarded as the brainchild of Lalit Modi, the founder and former commissioner of the league.

5.            Notional Games-The National Games of India compnses various disciplines in which sportsmen from the different states of India participate against each other. The country's first few Olympic Games, now renamed as

National Games, were held in North India (Delhi, Lahore Allahabad, Patiala, Madras, Calcutta, and Bombay.

 

6.            Junior Hockey World Cup- The Hockey Junior World Cup. is an international field hockey competition organised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The tournament was started in 1979.

 

7.            Commonwealth Games - The Commonwealth Games are an international multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The J event was first held in 1930, and has taken place every four years since then. The Commonwealth Games were known as the British Empire Games from 1930 to | 1950. It is the world's first multi-sport event which inducted equal number of women's and men's medal events and was implemented recently in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

 

8.            World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) ? WWE is an American integrated media and entertainment company that is primarily known for professional wrestling. It has branched out into other fields, including movies, real estate and various other business ventures.

  •                      Muhammad All, an American former professional boxer as well as philanthropist, is widely known as a cultural icon, and the most influential sports personality of the 20th century. In 1999, Sports Illustrated honored him with the title the Sportsman of the Century". For three times, he won the World Heavyweight Boxing championship.

  •                       Roger Federer, a Swiss tennis player, is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He has won men's record and 20 Grand Slam singles title.  

  •                    Michael Jeffrey Jordan, a former American basketball player, and businessman, widely known as one of the greatest basketball players of his generation of all time.

  •                     Pele is regarded as the greatest football player for his accomplishments and contribution in football. He won football World Cup for three times in 1958, 1962 and in 1966.

  •                     Sachin Tendulkar, the most beloved sportsperson India has ever seen. He is also known by the name of Little Master.

  •                     Viswanathan Anand, become India's first chess grandmaster when he was barely 20 years old. Anand is the first recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sporting honour in chess.

 

  •                      Milkha Singh, also known as the 'Flying Sikh', is the most famous Indian sprinter and one of the first sporting icons of the country. Singh was the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games.

 

 

  •                      Saina Nehwal is counted among the world's top players in women's badminton and she has won a number of the championships.

Arjuna Awara

The Arjuna Awards were established by the Indian Government in 1961 for the excellent performance by the sportspersons in various events.

Dronacharya Aware

Instituted in 1985, the bronacharya Award is presented by the Indian Government for brilliance in sports coaching. Since the best sport sperson award is named Arjuna Award, it would be appropriate that the best coaching award is named bronacharya, the Guru of Arjuna.

 

Dhyan Chand Award

The bhyan Chand Award is the highest lifetime achievement award in sports and games in India and is presented by the Indian Government. It is named after the renowned Indian hockey player Dhyan Chand.

 

Rajiv Ghandhi Khel Ratna

In India, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is the highest honour given for accomplishment in sports. The term "Khel Ratna" translated in Hindi literally means "sports gem", named after the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv

Gandhi. The award was formulated to present the utmost honour for exceptional sporting performances, whether by

an individual or a team in all sporting disciplines in a year.

 

Other charts awards India

 The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Award is given mainly to the overall top winners in the Inter-University Tournaments. In Punjab, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award is given by the Government of Punjab for excellent achievement in the field of sports. Apart from these awards, there are few other special awards from the Government of India that are given to the medal winners in international sporting events. The Government also confers some cash awards.
