There are two types of living organism i.e. plants and animals that we have studied in the previous chapter. The characteristics feature of plants and animals are different. In this chapter we will study about the different types of animals.

Animals move from one place to another in search of food and shelter and to protect themselves from the enemy. Animals can't prepare its own food hence depend on plants for its food. Animals those are living on land breathe with the help of nose and lungs. Whereas the animals those are living in water breathe with the help of gills. Animals have sense organs like eyes, nose, ear, and tongue, skin to detect changes in the environment and to respond accordingly. All animals produce offspring of its own kind either by laying eggs e.g. birds, snakes, fishes etc. or by giving birth to young ones like cat, dog, tiger, human etc.
Animals have the capacity to adapt themselves according to their immediate environment.
